Obituary

William Isaac Suggs, known to many as Bill, passed away on September 2, 2026, in Gastonia, North Carolina, at the age of 73. He was born on December 14, 1952, in Troy, North Carolina, son to the late Ray Suggs and Margaret Abernathy Suggs.

Bill will be remembered as a "hard worker" and always with a glad heart. Bill was like the "neighborhood manager", who always looked after everyone and kept up with the neighborhood news. He found special joy in simple moments, including playing video games with his grandson, Chip, a pastime that brought laughter, and memories. Most of all Bill was very committed to his family, especially to the care of his wife, Rebecca, when she was ill.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie Gordon of Winder, GA; his stepdaughter, Jodie Cogdell and her husband, Ernest, of York, SC; his grandchildren, Trey Gordon of Herndon, VA, Katherine Knight of Winder, GA, Chance Cook of Winder, GA, Justice Cook of Winder, GA, Chip Cogdell, Abigail Cogdell and Alana Cogdell. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice, Genie, and Shirley; and by his brothers, Ray Suggs Jr., Larry Suggs, James Suggs, Jerry Suggs, and Charlie Suggs. Each of them carries memories of Bill and the place he held in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Rebecca Westbrook Suggs; his stepson, Thomas Humphries; his sisters, Sissy, Brenda, and Connie; and his brother, Tony Lee Suggs.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Trinity Assembly of God Cemetery, 307 White Jenkins Road, Bessemer City, North Carolina 28016.

Bill’s memory will remain in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed.

Sisk-Butler Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of William "Bill" Isaac Suggs.
