Vesta Louise Lankford

Vesta Louise Jones Lankford, 83, of Bessemer City. She was born July 30, 1941, in Gaston County, to the late Charles Ernest and Shirley Carpenter Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Steele Lankford, Sr. one month shy of 60 years of marriage.

Vesta graduated from Dallas High School, Class of 1959. Fred and she were married in 1963. She attended First Baptist Church of Bessemer City since 1963, where she attended Sunday school with perfect attendance for over 40 years. She taught 2nd grade Sunday school for several decades. She retired from Wix Corporation in the payroll department after 15 years of service.

Family members left to cherish her memories include her sons, Fred Steele Lankford, Jr., and Brent Lankford (Lisa); grandsons, Carson Lankford, and Steele Lankford; her sisters, Ruby Gholson and Marlene Friday.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at First Baptist Church, Bessemer City on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Vesta’s Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Olin S Byrum III officiating.

Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Vesta’s name to First Baptist Church, 107 E Washington Ave., Bessemer City, NC 28016.
