Tom Lineberger, 88, died peacefully on July 27, 2025. He was born in Dallas, NC, and was the sixth born of the seven sons of Essie Mae Rhyne and Richard Ralph Lineberger.
Tom was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church, Dallas, NC, and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the church choir. Previously, he sang with the Gentlemen Songsters and participated in the annual Strawberry Festival of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Gastonia. He would leave a ham or other food items outside the home of someone he knew or heard of who might be in need, especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas. He received great joy in secretly serving and providing for others. He was so attuned to his automobile’s operation that he could hear a fly land on his car at 55 mph.
Tom was a graduate of Dallas High School in 1955. He was a machinist for 60+ years for Southern Gear Works, Inc., Gastonia, and, most recently, worked for Spencer-Pettus Gear, Bessemer City.
A graveside service with inurnment will be held at Westview Gardens, Edgewood Rd., Bessemer City, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 am with Reverends Tommy and Megan Lineberger. Visitation will follow from 12:15 pm until 1:30 pm at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home, 730 Gastonia Highway, Bessemer City.
Mr. Lineberger was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 ½ years, Bobbie (2018), a daughter, Tammy (1981), a son, Fred (2014), four brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis (Elvira), Jake (Margaret), Carl, and Brady (Kate), Jack (Beverly) Farrar, Dorothy (Bandy) Cline, and Fred (Brenda) Farrar.
He is survived by children, Penny Herman (Larry), and Tommy (Debbie), grandchildren, Shawn (Maryanne), Ryan, Jennifer, Corey (Melissa), Megan (Will), Justus (Joshua), Katie, John, and Anna, great-grandchildren, Savannah, Colton, Hunter, Samuel, Caroline, Benjamin, Ava, Elliott, and Ember, brothers and sister-in-law, Dorus and Albert (Marsha), numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend, Yvonne Keever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Lutheran Church, Old NC 277 Loop Rd., Dallas, NC 28034, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 1856, Lincolnton, NC 28093, or Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 7, Vale, NC 28168.
