Sophronia "Demaris" Turner

Sophronia “Demaris” Nash Turner, age 86, of Bessemer City passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 28, 1938, in Gaston County, the daughter of the late Robert Lee Nash, Sr. and Eunice Irvine Nash. Demaris dedicated many years of her career to providing exceptional customer service at a local bank. Beyond her work, Demaris was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church Bessemer City, where she actively participated in community events and contributed to various church activities. In her free time, she pursued her love for sewing. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Carter P. Turner; brothers JI Nash, Charlie Nash Sr., and Robert Nash, Jr.; and sister Norma Jean White.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Laura Turner Costner (Randy) and Deann Turner Watts (Brian); brother Thomas Allen Nash; sister Mary Elizabeth Nash; grandchildren Elisa Hiott (Jordan), Aaron Costner, Alston Watts (Alyssa), Bailey Watts (Samantha), and Mikayla Watts (Scott Brueshaber); great-grandchildren Karen Elizabeth Hiott, Carter Pryor Costner, and Charlotte Rose Watts; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and many special friends that loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 12:00 pm – 12:45 pm at First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, NC. The funeral service to celebrate Demaris’ life will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Olin Byrum, III officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The First Baptist Church of Bessemer City.
