Robert “Jim” James Bentley, age 75, of Kings Mountain passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 8, 1949, to the late Walter James and Martha Jane Kiser Bentley. Throughout his career, Jim spent over thirty years as a truck driver for the postal service. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Growing up, Jim attended Ridge Baptist Church. In his free time, Jim found joy in the simplicity of nature, often taking leisurely walks or casting his line off the dock, where he relished the tranquility of fishing. He enjoyed watching racing and was fascinated by technology. On the greens, he enjoyed golfing with friends, sharing laughter and competition. A devoted sports fan, Jim loved cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs football team and the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Sonny Bentley, brother-in-law Doug Hester, and niece Rhoda Gold.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Janice Paige Thomas Bentley; children Kristy Deaton (Johnny), Nichole Stinnett (Adrian), and Robert James Bentley, II (Brandi); brother David Bentley (Mary); sister Jackie Hester; grandchildren Alston Deaton; Addison Stinnett (Kelsey); and Alec Stinnett; great-grandchildren Sophia, Addox, and Addalee; beloved man’s best friend “Darla”; along with a number of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 2:45 pm at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 3:00 pm. Inurnment will be with the family.
