Leroy Grindle

Leroy Grindle, age 96, a faithful son, brother, husband, and father, peacefully left his earthly home on August 4, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House of Cleveland County. He went to be with his Heavenly Father and loved ones who preceded him. He was born on May 16, 1930, in Gastonia, NC and was the son of the late William Andrew Grindle and Fannie Fields Grindle.

Leroy was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He met his beautiful wife Sara at Arlington Mill where they both worked. Following many years in the textile industry, he was later employed with West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company (commonly known as “the box factory”) where he retired after 30 years. Leroy read his Bible everyday and enjoyed his woodworking shop, gardening, and fishing in his spare time. He had a kind personality that children were naturally drawn to. Animals loved him immediately.

Leroy is survived by his daughters, Diane Ledford of Gastonia NC and Janice Cannon (Robbie) of Dallas NC; grandchildren, Scott Ledford and Jason Ledford of Gastonia, Chris Cannon (Toni) of Stanley, Adam Cannon (Jennifer) of Lincolnton, and Jeffrey Cannon of Dallas; two great grandchildren, Josie and Xander Cannon of Lincolnton; and many nieces and nephews.

Leroy is preceded in death by his wife, Sara Hamby Grindle; his parents; brothers, Luke, Ernest, Arnold, J.C., and Roscoe; sisters, Mattie Woody and Callie Jones; son-in-law, Leslie Ledford and Leroy’s sweet dog, Dolly.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home, 730 Gastonia Hwy., Bessemer City NC 28016, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at Sisk-Butler and burial at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Dr., Gastonia, NC 28054. Services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Grindle. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army.

Pallbearers will be Chris Cannon, Jason Ledford, Adam Cannon, Jeffrey Cannon, Johnny Jones and Lemar Hardee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wendover Hospice House of Cleveland County, 953 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
