Joy Haney Fine

Joy Haney Fine, 79, of Dallas, North Carolina, passed away on September 17, 2026, in Gaston County. 

Born on August 16, 1947, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Joy was the daughter of the late Callie Buller Haney and Roy Augustus Moose. An only child, Joy grew to create a family of her own that became one of the greatest and most important parts of her life. 

Joy was a devoted homemaker whose life centered around the people she loved. She was fiercely protective of her family and never hesitated to stand up for those she cared about. Those who knew Joy knew that she was outspoken and would always tell you exactly what was on her mind. At the same time, she truly never met a stranger. She had a way of seeing the good in people and welcoming others without judgment. 

Joy was of the Pentecostal faith and carried her faith with her throughout her life. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats, including Maya, Anna, Gypsy, and Snowy. She also loved the mountains and found happiness in life’s familiar comforts—including her snuff, an old-fashioned habit that was simply part of who Joy was and something those closest to her will remember with a smile. 

Above all, Joy’s greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind. 

She is survived by her three sons, Raymond Fine and his wife, Yvette Fine; Paul Fine and his partner, Michelle Stroupe; and Stephen Fine and his wife, Nerissa Fine. 

She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Amber Fine, Desmond Fine, Jarrett Fine, Aleigha Fine, Rayssa Fine, and Reanna Fine; and her great-granddaughter, Bristol Huffstetler. She also leaves behind her close friend, Doye Hager, as well as others whose lives were touched by her friendship, honesty, and unmistakable personality. 

Joy was preceded in death by her mother, Callie Buller Haney; her father, Roy Augustus Moose; and her former husband and father of her children, George Stevenson Fine. 

Joy will be remembered for being exactly who she was—protective, outspoken, loving, accepting, and never afraid to speak her mind. Her ability to see the good in others, her love for her family and animals, and the many memories she created during her 79 years will continue to live on through the generations of family she leaves behind. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, 730 Gastonia Highway, Bessemer City, North Carolina 28016. 

A funeral service celebrating Joy’s life will follow at 12:30 p.m., at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services. Joy will be laid to rest in Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054. 

Though Joy’s presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave, the family she protected so fiercely, and the memories she created will remain with those who loved her for generations to come.
