John D Wood, Jr

John D Wood, Jr., 91, of Bessemer City passed away on June 2, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 9, 1934, to the late Johnny Dee Wood, Sr. and Mary Kathrine Curtis Wood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gail Howard; brother, Eddie Wood; son, Eric Wood; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Queen.

John was a lifelong member of First Wesleyan Church. He was a devoted Christian whose faith grew stronger over the years, and a proud American. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. John was an artist who enjoyed carving and woodworking, making walking canes. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. John was a well-known storyteller, enjoying sharing embellished, humorous tales from his childhood and time in the Air Force and at the Postal Service.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Janell Rebecca King Wood; sons, Scott Wood (Cindy), Greg Wood, and Kyle Wood (Dawn); sister, Linda Queen; grandsons, Kieran and Aidan Wood; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Matt Mitchell, will be held Thursday, June 5 at First Wesleyan Church in Bessemer City at 2:00 PM.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 PM before the service.

The immediate family will have a private graveside service.
