John Mason Wilson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in Bessemer City, North Carolina, at the age of 85. Born on January 24, 1941, in North Carolina, John was the son of the late Richard Wilson and Lela Martin Wilson.
Throughout John's life, he established deep and enduring relationships, as the owner and operator of Wilson Tool, a business he was proud to have for over 25 years. He continued to serve his community while attending Mount Beulah Baptist Church as a Deacon and bus driver for seven years.
John was known to get along with everyone he met, maintaining a positive attitude he was a "happy go lucky" kind of man. He was also very athletic throughout his life; he enjoyed bowling for many years and later played tennis where he earned multiple trophies. One of John's favorite pastimes was bass fishing, especially with his dear wife, Nancy.
John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy Wilson, who remained by his side, sharing in both life’s joys and challenges. He is also survived by his devoted daughter, Debra Oliver, and his caring son, Bobby Wilson. His grandchildren—Christina Burham, Wendy Wilson, Shane Williams, and John Robert Jr.—were a constant source of pride and happiness; his great-grandchildren Alyssa, Andrew, Alex, Aiden, and Luke including, his great great granddaughter, Willow. He is survived by his brother Richard Wilson, and his sisters Gladys and Martha Jo.
John was preceded in death by his dear granddaughter, Dana Williams, as well as by his siblings Avery, Arville, Polly, and Laura Mae. Their memories were always held close in his heart.
A graveside service honoring John Mason Wilson’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Mount Beulah Baptist Church, 5306 Dallas Cherryville Hwy, Bessemer City, NC 28016. Family will receive friends following the graveside. Services will be conducted by Reverend Robert Austin.
