Joe Frank Boatright

Joe Frank Boatright, 89, of Gastonia, passed away at Caromont Regional on April 16, 2025. He was born February 21, 1936, in Union County, to the late William Franklin Boatright and Gladys Mae Mullis Boatright.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Faye Boatright

Joe was a lifelong member at Temple Baptist Church in Gastonia. He loved to cook and bake for the family. Joe honorably served in the US Army military during the Korea War. He was a very active member at Temple Baptist Church in Gastonia. He served as an active Mason for many years. Joe was looking forward to going Home and being with his Heavenly Father. He enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables, fishing and going to the beach. People called him a “Gentle Giant.”

Family members left to cherish his memories including his wife of 13 years, Verlin Summitt Boatright; sons, Bob Oakes, and Jim Revels (Stacy); daughter, Teresa Pennington (Rae); sisters, Sadie Boatright, Sue Harris, and Edith Baucom; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at Temple Baptist Church on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Joe’s Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Scott Whitener officiating.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park
