Jane Linder Falls, a beloved member of the Bessemer City community, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Dan Falls, and her dear sister, Linda Wehunt.
Jane is survived by her cherished daughter, Leah Lyerly, and her husband, Larry Lyerly; her beloved granddaughters, Janie Elmshaeuser, and her husband, Elijah; and Jessie Lyerly, and her partner, Jake Wilmoth. Jane's presence was a constant source of inspiration, love, and strength in their lives.
Born December 27, 1935, and raised in Bessemer City, Jane spent her married years on the Falls family tree farm before she and Richard relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina upon retirement. They devoted themselves to enriching the lives of their grandchildren, Janie and Jessie, and were an integral part of their upbringing.
Throughout her life, Jane maintained close friendships, including her dear friend Jim Schofield of Holly Springs, North Carolina, who brought happiness and companionship into her life.
After graduating from Wake Forest University, Jane embarked on a fulfilling career in education. She began as a dedicated Spanish teacher in Alexandria, VA, and later became a respected guidance counselor in Gaston County schools, where she served for more than 40 years. Her commitment to her students was unwavering, and she was recognized with numerous awards for her exceptional work, including helping generations of high school graduates earn substantial scholarship opportunities.
A lifelong member of Delta Kappa Kamma, Jane was deeply involved in her community and a devoted member of Bessemer City United Methodist Church. She generously contributed her time and talents to various church committees over the years, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Abbotswood at Irving Park and AuthoraCare Hospice for the care, comfort, and support they provided to Jane during her final years. They also wish to express their deepest appreciation to Denise Ritner, who faithfully served as Jane's caregiver and companion for 17 years. Denise's unwavering dedication, kindness, and friendship brought immeasurable comfort and enriched Jane's life in countless ways, especially during her final days.
Jane will be remembered as a spirited and feisty woman who enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, generosity, and dedication to others will continue to inspire future generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church Bessemer City in Jane's honor. The address for donations is 110 W Alabama Ave, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
We will remember Jane at a Graveside service on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery, 800 N 13th St., Bessemer City, North Carolina with Reverend Dr. Randolph Harry officiating.
