James Calhoun McConnell

James Calhoun McConnell of Gastonia, NC, passed away October 28, 2026, he was 82 years old. James was born in Anderson County, SC and son to the late Alonzo Harvey McConnell and Jessie Mae Clark McConnell.

James retired from Globe Manufacturing after 48 years of service, after retirement he enjoyed quietly sitting on the porch bird watching, especially hummingbirds, relaxing and reading the newspaper from cover to cover. He loved watching his classic Western's, and during the season he spent time watching the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was an avid sports fan.

James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Price McConnell; survived by his daughter, Melinda "Sue" Morgan {Donnie) of Gastonia; his son, Allen McConnell (Gwen); his grandson, Christopher Morgan and great grandsons, Jonathan and Skylar Morgan.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, November 2, 2026, in Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Dr., Gastonia, NC, 28054. Services will be conducted by Rev. Roger Wentz. 

Family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside.
