Harold William Roper

Harold William Roper, 83, of Kings Mountain passed away on June 3, 2025, peacefully while he slept. He was born on April 29, 1942, to the late Lawrence William Roper and Lucille Bonnie Chastain Roper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles Roper, and Cecil Roper.

Harold was born in Swain County, North Carolina in the small town of Whittier, but he was proud to say he was from Tow String, North Carolina. He moved to Gaston County and started a career in Law Enforcement that lasted over 30 years. He began in 1964 at the City of Gastonia Police Department, and he retired from the Gaston County Police Department in 1997. Harold was a member for many years at Shady Grove Baptist Church, in Cherryville, North Carolina. He was a longtime host on the “Bluegrass Radio Show” for WKMT station in Kings Mountain.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Harold “Billy” Roper, Jr (Cindy), Donald “Don” Roper (Julie), Benjamin “Ben” Roper (Dana), Adam Roper (Olivia), and Jason Greene (Paige). Grandchildren; Donald Jr. (Laura), Kaleb, Reagan (Austin), Austin (Elizabeth), Addison, and Chandler (Emily). Great grandchildren; Charlotte, and one on the way. Nephew, Brian Roper.

Harold’s graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville with Pastor Dale Hendricks officiating.
