Dorothy Ann Gillette

December 28, 1959 — May 8, 2025

Statesville

Dorothy Ann Watts Gillette, age 65, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at her residence. She was born on December 28, 1959, in Polk County, FL, the daughter of the late William and Lillie Mae Watts. Before retirement, Dorothy dedicated many years of her life working as a press operator in the printing industry, where she met her husband, Bill. She started her career in the printing department at Polk County Schools in Florida, as well as in the Mecklenburg and Gaston County School Systems. She also worked at Freightliner in the service department. A devoted member of the Baptist faith, Dorothy found solace and strength in her beliefs. One of her greatest joys was taking trips to the beach. She cherished these moments, often sharing them with her loved ones. Family was at the core of Dorothy's life; her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Christmas was one of her favorite times of year. She poured her love into unique gifts and always giving generously to her family. She sacrificially offered more than she had, often putting their needs ahead of her own. Additionally, her heart was filled with love for her many little white dogs, who had been her faithful companions through the years, showering her with affection in return. Especially her beloved “Sissy” dog that had went on before her many years ago. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Peggy Watts.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband William “Bill” Gillette; sons Robert Taylor, Jr. and Richard Taylor (Michelle); daughter Cynthia Bell (Justin); brothers Jerry and Buddy Watts; grandchildren Preston (Courtney), Justin (Kasey), Riley, Kaylee, Ali, Isiah (Sarah), Enoch, Will, and Lily; great-grandchildren Caroline, Violet, Charlotte, Chase, and Scarlet; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and many special foster children that she cared for deeply through the years.
