David Ray Wylie, 63, of Bessemer City passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on January 22, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1962, in Gaston County to the late Albert Lindberg Wylie and Martha Albright Wylie.
He was a lover of life’s simple pleasures. Whether it was a trip to the beach, fishing, or simply spending time with his “Babygirl’s”. If he was anywhere near the water, you could find him sitting on a pier. If you looked up “World’s Best Daddy,” there would be a photo of him smiling with pride.
After spending 37 years working for Daimler Trucks at the Gastonia location. David had recently embraced retirement. Though his retired life was brief, he filled it with what mattered most. That is time with his daughters and his precious granddaughter that he loved and adored.
David was one of three brothers who shared an especially close relationship. He will be laid to rest alongside his brother Alan, who sadly passed away the day after David. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who loved him. He leaves this world behind to claim the treasures he stored in Heaven.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Marla Wylie.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Madison Horne (Ethan) and Megan Wylie (Blake Spargo); brother, James Wylie (Shelia); ex-wife, Georgette Martin; grandchild, Georgia Rae Horne; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 am on Friday, January 30, 2026, at First Baptist Church, Bessemer City with Reverend Jim Loftis, Reverend Dickie Spargo, and Reverend Chris Doster officiating.
David’s funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm.
Interment will be at Westview Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
