Betty Jean Weiger Pickering was born in Midland, Michigan, September 25, 1926. She passed away peacefully, on September 26, 2026, living over 100 years.
Her parents were Frank and Mary Weiger. Betty was a sibling to sister's Helen Rhyne, Ruth Hitchcock and brother's Frank, Robert, Jerry, Harold and Russell.
Betty was married to Leo Frederick Pickering for 50 years. They started their married life,
eloping to Angola, Indiana in 1946, while on a Christmas shopping trip to Detroit.
Betty was an Angelic Mother to son's David (Midland, MI), Curtis (Myrtle Beach, SC) and daughter Marla Bumgardner (Denver, NC). Betty was also blessed with 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In Betty’s early years, she had various jobs: worked as a telephone operator, Dow Chemical cafeteria chef and owned an after-school daycare business.
In her later years, Betty served in churches for over 40 years as a pianist, organist, and vocalist. She also gave of her time and talents to being a Girl Scout Leader; volunteering with her brother Bob each week delivering food to the poor/elderly.
As a pastor's wife, she shared her faith, time and love to all ages in the community; at schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and assisting the sick and needy.
Betty enjoyed traveling to Vienna, Israel, Dubai, Kuwait, Mexico, and Canada. Her hobbies included painting, bingo, puzzles, coloring, reading the Bible and romantic novels, attending Loon games, viewing Tigers/Lion games and playing the Hawaiian Steel guitar. She also began her daily morning devotions praying for a long list of people she valued.

Betty will be buried at Midland Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date.
